🇰🇵 North Korea held what appears to be its first drone-only exhibition, with Kim Jong Un calling for "absolute superiority" in drone technology and AI, followed by a live-fire show with drone-launched missiles and 600mm rockets, state media said.
KCNA said Kim attended the "Unmanned Aeronautical Technology Development-2026" exhibition on Oct. 29 with his wife and daughter. The firepower demonstration featured suicide attack drones, tactical cruise missiles, multipurpose drones firing air-to-surface missiles and a battalion of 600mm multiple rocket launchers; KCNA claimed drone-launched and cruise missiles hit an island target with 100% accuracy. South Korea's military detected rocket launches from Wonsan around 12:30 p.m., believed to be KN-25 rockets. State photos showed a Saetbyol-9, a near copy of the U.S. MQ-9 Reaper, firing a light cruise missile, and a tailless flying-wing stealth drone shown for the first time. Strikes were staged on mock-ups resembling South Korean K9 howitzers, M1 Abrams-type tanks and radar vehicles, which analysts said suggests use against South Korean and U.S. forces.
The accuracy claim cannot be independently verified, and the "Abrams" were mock-ups. South Korean officials have questioned the Saetbyol-9's combat value. I could not confirm reports that specific drones are copies of Lancet, Harop or Switchblade; one loitering munition resembles Israel's UVision Hero-400. The show follows Pyongyang's threats over U.S.-South Korea drills and its push to draw lessons from Russia's war in Ukraine.
